About Us

Mill Creek Chinese School was founded in May 1996. By several enthusiastic parents, hope that their children could learn Chinese language, expect to have a better Chinese learning environment; plus the  continuous increase of Asian populations moving to Mill Creek area; therefore the school was established with high demands and needs under multi party request.

The school started with less than twenty students that were divided into two classes, the maximum age was 12 years old and the youngest was only 4 years of age.  The teaching materials were provided from Taiwan cultural and educational center by using Mandarin “Bopomofo” reading and revision of Chinese. The class schedule was twice a week on Tuesdays and Friday from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm for one hour and the location was rented from a small nursery center for the classroom. Students were very enthusiastic to learn and study and parents were very pleased to see the success. Because the majority of students participate in variety of extracurricular activities, the tremendous number of students increased, the original site is no longer enough for use, and since then the class schedule was changed to 5:00 pm through 7:00 pm once a week on Friday. In 1998, the Board of Directors decided to transfer to Mill Creek Elementary School which there was only three beginner classes. Later due to the continuous growth of participants enrolling, the school moved to Woodside Elementary School. After seven years, the school moved to Heatherwood Middle School again due to the needs and demands. There were 87 students before and divided into seven classes which contained 15 to 20 students in a large group or 6 to 12 in a small group.  From 2020 to 2021, due to the COVID pandemic, we were not able to have in-person classes, our school immediately adopted remote online teaching so that students can continue to learn Chinese.

Moving locations from elementary school to middle school, we’ve gained numbers of spacious classroom under Everett school district’s support, so we can provide students with a better learning environment. Currently the highest level is in the 6th volume of Mandarin Chinese textbook. Rather than rapid teaching, we are focusing on students’ comprehension, learning progress, and application. Because of the trendy and market demands, we teach PinYin and traditional characters for the Chinese Mandarin and adopted the “Let's Learn Chinese" textbook, which are lively, useful and practical. We hope our children can apply the knowledge of Chinese languages into their lives.

We thank the Taiwan government for all aspects of assistance and support to Oversea Chinese School. We will cooperate with the Taiwanese Cultural and Educational Centers and participate in various activities as well. We will also do our best to make our school better, Let our children have an interest and a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, and can carry the mission of inheriting Chinese culture.
